Give Your Ears a Break

If you frequently go to live music events or festivals you should make a habit of finding a quiet spot and taking a break from all the loud noise. As it turns out, even your ears need a break from time to time!

However, if you don’t want to miss a minute of whatever exciting event you’re at (Neil Diamond’s 50th Anniversary Tour for instance) you can also buy earplugs or ear protectors that will allow you to hear everything without causing damage to your ears.

It is also extremely important to keep in mind that it typically takes about 16 hours of rest before your ears are able to recover from two hours spent in noise of 100 decimals (equivalent to the noise in a club).

Your ears are essentially a warning system for potentially dangerous noises. It’s even more important that you take a break or wear protection if you experience any of the following, because the noise is too loud:

  • You have to raise your voice so the person standing near you can understand what you’re saying
  • The noise causes pain in your ears
  • You have a ringing or buzzing sound in your ears, even if the issue is temporary (this is an indication of dead hair cells in the cochlea)
  • It takes several hours after getting away from a loud noise before you are able to hear as you normally do
